Martha Stewart Member Rating: 5 stars 01/28/2018 Quick, easy and good. I added 1tsp. of ground cumin and used vegetable bullion instead of chicken broth. The ingredients are things we usually have on hand so I'll be making this again. Hubby topped his with a bit of shredded Mexican 4-cheese mix. Might add a little fresh cilantro on top next time. Looking forward to having the leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 05/20/2013 Thank you for this absolutely easy and delicious recipe. My boyfriend loves it! I slightly modified it and shared it with my german and english readers on queenandcakes.bplaced.net. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 03/08/2013 Easiest soup I ever made! I followed the advice of another review and omitted the chili powder and added an onion, cumin and oregano and cilantro. Everyone loved it! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 03/07/2013 Haven't tried this yet, but sounds great! It seems like the tortilla chips IN the soup, softened, would make them mushy. What's the consensus? Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/15/2013 After becoming a vegetarian about 2 yes ago, I've missed chicken tortilla soup! So I love that this one doesn't have the chicken in it... but what does everyone (especially those that have made this) think about switching out the chicken broth for vegetable? Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/09/2013 This is by far one of the EASIEST recipes out there and always a crowd pleaser!! It is a favorite in our house!! Easy to freeze too....minus the tortilla chips...Great to eat with Doritos SCOOPS!!! Martha Stewart Member Rating: 5 stars 01/17/2013 A real favorite in our house. I've cooked this a hundred times. Great recipe for when time and money are tight and hunger strikes. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 01/13/2013 Outstanding!!! My son and I loved it! I added some onion powder, dried cilantro, extra chili powder & garlic. The lime juice yielded an extra fresh taste. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 01/01/2013 I also saute an onion with the chicken. I use only 1 large can of crushed tomatoes (not 2 cans diced) and I add a small can of diced chilli peppers, a can of drained hominy, 1.5 cups of water, I omit the chili powder use 1 Tbsp. of Cumin 1 Tbsp. of oregano and I also add in about 1/4-1/2 cup of cilantro chopped fine. I also have more cilantro for garnishing, and have shredded cheese and sour cream along with lime wedges for adding. Very easy and delicious! Martha Stewart Member Rating: 4 stars 10/27/2012 I saute an onion with this and add cilantro. It's a really quick and easy recipe. I like to eat this with a small cheese only quesadilla. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 10/12/2012 My boyfriend and I love this soup because it tastes great, but I especially love it because it's so EASY to make. We add a chipotle hot sauce after it's served to give it an extra kick. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 08/09/2012 My husband and I love this soup. We leave out the lime but add cilantro, onions, shredded chicken, and double the garlic and chili powder. We also use fresh corn and tomatoes too. YUMMY! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 07/23/2012 It could be awesome if we add some cilantro and white onions or shallots !!! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 05/10/2012 I love this soup! I too, use more spices. I use 1 1/2 times the amount of garlic and chili powder. As another reviewer suggests, I use canned tomatoes that have chlis in them plus one seeded jalepeno. I also add shredded chicken. It's pretty thick...I think I will add two cans of broth next time. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/01/2012 I agree with the majority of people that it is missing more spices. I made this and it is good but bland, definately needed more spices, so I added ..... 1 tsp more chili powder, 3/4 tsp cumin, 1/4 tsp garlic salt and 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper and more garlic cloves. After doing this...it was fantastic!! Great flavor! Would make this again with my added spices!! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 01/23/2012 Definitely missing some spices. It is really good with a tablespoon of chili powder and ground garlic, onion, and cumin to taste, and a pinch of chipotle powder if you have it. I add shredded chicken breast as well. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 11/13/2011 I make this soup regularly now because it's hearty, filling, full of flavor and very quick, easy and cost effective to make. Sometimes I add roasted chicken breast to bump up the protein count, and I also add a handful of fresh spinach leaves. Additionally, I sometimes serve it with a little dollop of Greek yogurt / sour cream. But what really makes the soup over the top are the crunched up tortillas. It travels & reheats great, making it a great soup to take into the office. Martha Stewart Member Rating: 3 stars 11/13/2011 It's good but a little bland. I like my tortilla soup with more "oomph" behind it. This one tasted better after I put a bunch of hot sauce on it. I'm not much of a cook, so I don't know exactly how to modify this recipe to improve, but I might suggest adding some salsa and hot sauce, and perhaps more garlic, onions, and chili powder. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 11/12/2011 I just made this soup, and it was pretty good. It was very quick and easy, which really made it great. I feel like it could have some more flavors besides the overwhelming tomato, although I really love tomatoes so it's not much of an issue for me. I followed the recipe exactly, other than one extra clove of garlic and a little Tapatio. Next time, I'd add an onion, drain a bit of the tomato juice and compensate with chicken broth, and add a diced jalapeno. Martha Stewart Member Rating: 2 stars 09/08/2011 This was really delicious! I added the chicken too. Also, I used the canned tomatoes as directed but added fresh prepared salsa. Also, I chopped fresh cilantro into the soup right before it was done. I used lime juice as directed but added some lime zest too. This turned out really great! Will definitely make this again. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/16/2011 YUM-E! I made this for the first time while the kids were at school today thinkging it would take a long time. It was super quick and filled the house with a fragrant smell. I doubled the recipe and added shredded chicken. I like the suggestion of adding the chips to the bottom of the bowl. I past the recipe onto lots of my working mom friends who need something quick, easy, tasty Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/12/2011 Oh my, we loved this! I made it as directed except using lemon juice in place of lime. I was surprised at how tasty this was since it was so simple and easy. I let it simmer for about 30 minutes as well. I took another reviewers suggestion and added the chips to the bottom of my bowl. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 01/11/2011 This is similar to a recipe that I make. I would suggest replacing the cans of diced tomatoes with a tomato/green chili product like Rotel for extra kick. They make several new versions, like cilantro and lime, which has become my new favorite! Want to serve more? Add hominy, navy beans, pinto beans, and black-eyed peas and more broth. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 09/15/2010 i keep misplacing my everyday food magazine that this recipe was printed in...my husband and i have become very addicted to this soup. it is so quick and easy and now that i am unsuccessful finding my magazine i am going to (finally) print out the recipe and keep it in my recipe folder...in my kitchen...where it belongs!! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 08/05/2010 Anyone try this in in the slow cooker? Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 06/29/2010 When I followed the recipe it was very thick and not soup-like, so I doubled the chicken stock and added a diced jalapeno for heat. I also doubled the lime juice and this helped all the flavors pop better. Very delicious!! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 10/22/2009 I made this the day the book came in the mail! I had always wanted to try tortilla soup. I ROCKED this dish! I too added shredded chicken. But it seemed like it needed another dimension so I added quite a bit of chipotle powder. I also LOVE black beans and added an extra can. I added extra lime juice. I also simmered it for a lot longer. I served with sour cream, lime quarters, crushed chips, and avocado slices, and cilantro on the side. Mmmm! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 10/22/2009 I made this the day the book came inthe mail! I had always wanted to try tortilla soup. I ROCKED this dish! I too added shredded chicken. ut it seemed liek it deeded another dimension so I added quite a bit or chipotle powder. I also LOVE black beans and added an extra can. I added extra lime juice. I also simmer it for longer. I served with sour cream, lime quarters, crushed chips, and avocado slices. Mmmm! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/27/2009 My whole family loved this one and it was super easy to make - just dump everything in and let it simmer! I added shredded chicken and garnished with Cheddar cheese and the lime juice - yummy! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/27/2009 My husband an I also thought this was great. I garnished with cheese and sour cream. I also added chips to the bottom of the bowl so they would not be too mushy - keep up the great ideas - it was quick, easy, and delicious. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/06/2009 My husband and I also thought this soup was delicious. I added chopped, leftover roasted chicken to make it a little heartier, and simmered the soup for about 45 minutes to really blend the flavors. I crushed the chips into the serving bowls, rather than add them to the pot, so that leftovers won't be full of mushy chips. The chips softened just fine in the bowls. We are not super big eaters, so for us 1/2 a recipe yielded 4 servings. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 02/05/2009 I love this soup! It was very simple to make - the lime gave it a great deal of punch. This will go in my rotation of meals. I garnished with avocado. Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 01/20/2009 I just made this soup tonight. It is easy and quick to put together, takes minimal time to cook, and is very delicious and light! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 01/14/2009 We really enjoyed this soup. Great flavor, very filling, easy to put together. Will make again.Martha Stewart Member
