Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • Coarse salt
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 1/4 cups freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 cup best-quality white tequila
  • 1/3 cup Cointreau
  • 1/3 cup sugar, plus more if desired

Directions

To salt-rim the glasses, rub a cut lime around the rim of each of 4 stemmed goblets. Fill a saucer with salt. Dip goblet, upside down, into salt. Refrigerate goblets until ready to use.

Fill blender three-quarters full of ice cubes. Pour lime juice, tequila, and Cointreau over ice. Add sugar; blend, starting slowly, and then increasing to high speed, until ice is very finely chopped and mixture is frothy. Taste for sweetness; add more sugar if desired. Blend a few seconds more; pour into salt-rimmed glasses. Serve immediately.

I make the on-the-rocks (unshaken) version of Rick Bayless' "Pure-and-Simple Shaken Margarita". http://www.fronterakitchens.com/cooking/recipes/margarita.html

Someone please tell me all about the "tequila worm". I hope it's just a fairy tale.

Mmmm...homemade is always better. Same for Whiskey Sours. In restaurants they use that sweet and sour mix for these drinks. Fresh lime juice and simple syrup tastes FAAAAR better!

A little too strong for my taste. I did like the overall flavor but it requires quite bit of ingredients. Would love a more simplified version.

This is my favourite Martha drink recipe - though I am sure it is wrong as 1 3/4 cups of tequilla makes a very strong drink indeed. My friends can all drink and they thought it was strong. BUT - just add a little more fresh lime juice and go with it and you will soon have a great party! Enjoy this one a lot. Make your own pinata for added fun! from Christian, London
