Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil 4 strip steaks (each 6 to 8 ounces and about 3/4 inch thick) Coarse salt and ground pepper 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar 1/4 cup Dijon mustard

Directions

Heat oil in a large skillet over high heat. Season steaks generously on both sides with salt and pepper; place in skillet. Cook, turning once, until browned, 2 to 3 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer to a plate; cover with foil.

Add vinegar to skillet; boil until syrupy, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat; whisk in mustard and any accumulated juices from steaks. Serve sauce with steaks.

Martha Stewart Member Rating: 4 stars 06/05/2019 I used chicken rather than steak, but it did not matter. The sauce is addictive and would be great on any meat I'm guessing. I made this with spinach and tomato salad and rolls....was very good. I microwaved the chicken and sliced with sauce drizzled over the top. All in all, the meal took about 15 min from start to finish. I'll try the steak next time, I just don't keep it on hand.

Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 06/12/2016 I loved this! But I saved myself some aggravation. I started out with balsamic glaze (I get it at Trader Joe's). So all I had to do was mix the glaze and mustard together. Yummy!

Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 04/01/2011 I just made this for dinner and both my husband and I hated the sauce. The mustard was way to dominant. It's a good thing that the steaks I got were delicious w/o the sauce.

Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 07/20/2010 I made this recipe along with the suggested rosemary potatoes and string beans. It looked fancy and tasted great and it took about 40 minutes from start to finish, including boiling the water for the side dishes. My husband thought the sauce was excellent. I don't make a lot of steak but I would definitely make this again. It makes a nice dinner for two and would also be an impressive company meal.

Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 06/23/2010 This sauce was amazing! However I wasn't prepared for the strong smell of burning balsamic vinegar! I turned the heat down to medium but the smell made my eyes tear up. This is a great sauce for any steak!
