Yield: Makes 5 dozen

Makes 5 dozen

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 5 dozen large marshmallows
  • Black sprinkles, for decorating

Directions

Using scissors, trim 1/3 of curved side from each marshmallow to create a flat surface. Trim a sliver from 2 sides of the bottom of each marshmallow at an angle for a tapered chin. Cut a slit above chin for a mouth.

Using a toothpick, poke 2 holes halfway down each marshmallow for eyes and 1 in between for a nose. Pour sprinkles onto a plate. They will be different sizes; choose 1 small and 2 large for each. Insert small sprinkle for nose and larger sprinkles for eyes.

If you dip your scissors into confectioners sugar, that helps. Also, dipping them in very hot water may help.

How do you get a clean edge on the skulls when cutting? Using a scissors or knife, the sticky edges of the cut marshmallow cling to the utensil and make a mess.

I made the coffin brownies witout the white icing details because it was "not my thing"...I just couldn't keep a steady hand. In any event, they turned out fine and were a great hit at the party. I even propped up a few of the marzipan coffin lids with hidden toothpicks and put "creepy/crawly" things come out from under.

I think if you want to get a message to them you need to go to the Contact section of MarthaStewart.com. I doubt that they read all the comments under all their recipes. I can enlarge the picture by copying it into Word. I right click my mouse on the picture and then got to a new file in Word and hit Ctrl V which pastes the picture into Word. Click on the picture in Word and pull the corners out to enlarge it.

If you have an apple computer and use a mighty mouse hold down the shift key and scroll the "ball" on the mouse. This will allow you to get a close up on the picture. It works in all applications!

Close up photos would be great. It's hard to see the details of a lot of the items here wihtout a closer view. The photos should be clickable/enlargeable. Does anyone at MSL read or care about these comments?

A close - up picture of the skull and the whole cookie assembled would really help here.

It would be most helpful if there were step by step photos. Is there a reason they are not provided on this web site?
Visual learners would benefit from this as well.
