                how long does last in the fridge?  Could it be frozen?

                This sauce was very easy to make. It made a nice glaze for a spice cake that I made.  I served it on the side and let everyone drizzle the sauce over their slice of cake themselves. I didn't have heavy cream so I used half and half. I don't know if it made a difference in consistency...it was a little thin, but still yummy!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup light-brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of coarse salt

Directions

In a small saucepan, bring sugar, butter, and cream to a boil over medium-high. Cook, stirring, until butter melts and mixture is smooth. Reduce to a simmer, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes. Stir in vanilla and salt.
