  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, (spooned and leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 1 package (12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside. With an electric mixer, cream butter andsugars until light and fluffy.

Add eggs and vanilla; beat until combined, scraping down sides of bowl as needed. Add flour mixture;beat until just combined. Add oats, raisins, and chocolate chips; beat until just combined.

Drop 32 heaping tablespoons of batter, about 1 1/2 inches apart, onto baking sheets. Bake, rotating sheets halfway through, until cookies have spread and are golden brown and soft to the touch, 10 to 12 minutes. Cool 5 minutes on sheets; transferto a wire rack to cool completely.

                These were excellent. They actually turned out better than I anticipated. I did alter the recipe slightly in that I reduced the amount of raisins by 1/2 cup and substituted with 1/2 cup coconut just because my husband wanted some coconut. We tried them hot from the oven and they were good but not great. But now once they became room temperature they were wonderful. They are nice and soft with just a little crunch on the edge. They actually made almost 30 cookies using an ice cream scoop and one day after making them there are 4 left... the family and teenage friends love them. Great recipe. Next time I’m going to add some pecans too.

                These came out 100% perfect on the first try, and are absolutely fabulous - got about 2 dozen large-ish cookies out of it. I opted for the longer baking time at 350, for a slightly crispier cookie. I also added a little bit of cinnamon, because that's what I like. I was out of vanilla extract, so I used vanilla powder, which I whisked in with the dry ingredients to make sure it was evenly distributed. Thank you for the recipe - I'll be making it again!

                The oat to flour ratio is just too high, the next time I make it, I'll definitely cut down on the amount of oat.

                Made these last night, but I made a few changes.  Instead of raisins I used craisins and instead of milk chocolate chips I used white chocolate chips.  Very good recipe!!!

                These are delicious! I made it with 1 cup of cranberries, and half a cup of raisins to add a little tartness and everyone that has tasted them has absolutely loved them. Perfect balance!

                Delish! Moist, yummy goodness. Not generally a fan of oatmeal raisin cookies but these are fantastic! You must make these..I definitely will do it again.

                My Grandmother used to make, what she called, 'Cowboy' cookies. I used Martha's recipe to try and reproduce Grandmother's perfect family cookie. I reduced the oats to two cups, added one cup of walnuts and on top of the cookies I baked chopped maraschino cherries. This is the closest to Grandmother's cookies as I have gotten in ten years, soft in the middle, crispy on the edges and perfectly fluffy. Another excellent recipe from marthastewart.com.

                Easy and very yummy.  I added 1/2 cup granulated sugar instead of the recommended amount, and only 1/2 cup of raisins and only 1 cup chocolate chips. The cookies was sweet enough.   Will make again.   :)

                I've been making this recipe since it was published - it has to be the family favorite for chocolate chip cookies - so much that I've lost the book a couple of times and have to come here to reprint the recipe.  I do add some peanut butter to mine and replace the raisins with walnuts but otherwise it is a keeper in my book and always gets rave reviews.  Such a treat :)

                I've been making this cookie for years, I have a few changes. Instead of 3/4 brown sugar and white sugar I make it a cup each. Instead of raisins I use dried cranberries. This is my most requested cookie!
