Black Lagoon Cocktail

Ingredients

Ingredient Checklist

4 ounces vodka

2 ounces Rosemary-Lemon Syrup

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

Licorice Ice Cubes

      Cook's Notes

This drink is clear when first poured, but starts to darken as the black ice cubes melt. To make serving multiple cocktails easier, multiply and mix the vodka, syrup, and lemon juice in a pitcher. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve up to 3 hours. Pour mixture into glasses over licorice ice cubes, then top with seltzer.

Everyone at our party tried this cocktail over the weekend, and we all agreed that it was a bit medicinal tasting. Not bad, just not a taste that you want for a whole drink. With that said, I would make these suggestions. Try just one sprig of rosemary in your syrup - this is the overpowering medicinal taste if you're heavy-handed. Add a whole tablespoon of fresh lemon juice instead of 2 t. Also, use a lot of seltzer water vs. a splash. Lastly, use A LOT more black food coloring in your cubes.

I've made the Rosemary Lemon Syrup and am in the process of making the Anise Ice Cubes. However, please add "Seltzer Water" to this ingredient list because it didn't make my shopping list and now I need to make another trip. Cheers

I made this drink for my halloween party... It was spectacular!
I absolutely love the idea of the black flavored ice cube.
                Yum!

Some things things I learned that everyone should be aware of.
-The ice cubes come out uneven in color after bring frozen, this gives the cocktail a different yet cool effect.
-Avoid making your own rimming sugar. The condensation from the glass caused the color to leak down the side making a mess not to mention some of my guests lips turned black from it.

This was the most popular drink at my Halloween party. I called it a Black Death Martini. Our dollar store had ice cube strays in the shape of skulls. The effect of the black skull in the clear drink that immediately began to dissipate and slowly seep into the full drink was creepy and wonderful. For extra effect, we sprinkled the drinks with poison (pop rocks) just prior to serving. They were a huge hit. Can also be done non-alcoholically for kids with lemonade and the black ice cubes.
